Man, this is hard. Not the whole writing a pilot, casting it, shooting it, trying to get on the network schedule thing. (That's hard, too.) But this whole writing a blog thing. Very hard to strike the right tone. Don't want to sound too cute. Or too self-congratulatory. Or write a long string of casual-sounding non-sentences that don't begin with the word "I." (Oops -- too late.)
If you're at this site, you've heard the news: ABC has ordered "The Night Stalker" series for the fall season. What that means is obvious. I will not be taking a vacation any time soon. It also means I'll have the opportunity to tell some really great, scary stories on television.
Some of you are wondering how this new "Night Stalker" differs from the original TV movies and the short-lived series that followed. I'm not going to tell you. At least not now. Besides, we haven't started making the series yet - we just got the order! - so I don't want to get ahead of myself.
But we have shot the pilot, so I can tell you how cool and scary it is, how great the actors are, how different it looks from anything else on television... but there's that self-congratulation thing creeping in.
So let me say this: I'm very happy and excited to be making this show. And I'm counting on all of you to watch, and let me know what you think. With any luck, this first blog will be the beginning of a long and -- this being the Internet -- probably not so beautiful relationship with you, my invisible Web companions.
Truth is, the really hard part - making a show that entertains, captivates, and maybe even stimulates your imagination - is just starting. But it's also the fun part. I can't wait.
More -- much more -- to come...
