WISH COME TRUE

If you ever get to read this letter, I want you to know that one of my biggest wishes is just about to come true. I’m not writing to you as a fanatic fan, but someone who tries to understand why I feel so much fascination, so much of something for your series. My name is Kerstin. I live in Austria, close to Graz, where Mr. Schwarzenegger comes from. My hometown is surrounded by big mountains which really don’t make it easy to come over to you.
In this letter I’d like to tell you my story. The story of the day I nearly met the "X-Files" crew, the incredible story searching for all of you…
Can you imagine searching for someone you have never met? Can you imagine searching for something you will never get?
It all started with my grandma in '93, watching TV. She was totally into mystery. So when I was 9 years old I first saw David and Gillian on TV, not the kind of TV show a 9-year-old should watch or see -- but from that moment throughout my life they have affected me -- and now I’m 23. I told my father, ‘One day I’ll meet the crew and David Du-kof-ni,” but he just said `Sure` and smiled at me. Talking to all of you was my biggest wish, so I started studying English. My English was perfect when I turned 10 and I became the youngest "X-Files" fan and started making up my plan. I had saved all my money for a flight to Vancouver, I wanted to sneak out from home and meet you undercover. But unfortunately there was no travel agency selling a ticket to the 10 year-old-me. I would have missed school for a week, but I was such a good student, so missing school for you didn’t really bother me. When I think back of my brilliant plan today, I know that it was crazy, regarding the fact what could have happened to me.
So I filled out 5,856 game cards to win a meeting with the crew on the "X-Files" set, but unfortunately I didn’t make it, there were those 2 (f***) girls from Germany handing this (f***) Golden Otto over to Gil and David. When I heard that you were moving to L.A., my brilliant plan was dashed away and I had to start from the beginning, researching everything about L.A. When I was 12, I wrote my first "X-Files" episode and sent it out to Chris and Fox Studios. Two months later, I got a letter, which made me so happy, unfortunately my script was returned to me…
In '98, when I turned 14 I began to pray and somehow managed to get to the USA. I only got as far as Tennessee, can’t tell where I had been but I watched the "X-Files" movie on the big screen! On my way back I changed my flight, which saved my life, cause the SwissAir on which I was supposed to be, crashed in New York and burst into the sea. It was such a big shock for my family, they’d never ever let go off me.
In '99, however, when I was 15 I made my way and finally flew to L.A.!!!!
I spent five weeks in this incredible city searching for you. I visited all the "X-Files" movie locations and it was overwhelming. I visited the Unocal building, even went to the desert. I went to Bakersfield, California City, and Soledad Canyon. I visited the Beverly Hilton and sneaked into the International ballroom, sat down at one of those tables and felt like I was at the Golden Globes. I rented a limousine and, pretending to be a VIP, the guards let me pass to get inside the Fox Studios. I looked for you around the stages, but still, there was no sign of you. I really didn’t have a clue, but that night I was standing in front of David’s house in Malibu. It was such a great feeling, knowing that I wasn’t dreaming. Can you imagine being so close to your very dream? So real, dramatic and so thrilling like a movie-scene? And in this very moment all I got to see was David’s car driving away from me!
My host mum took pictures of me as proof, because when I look at them now, it appears to me as if this incredible journey had never happened to me.
It was all so amazing and I couldn’t believe I had to leave the States so early.
A week after I had left and I was at home, my host mum called me on the phone. Well, she was an actress, too, and a week after I left, she and her daughter were called by the "X-Files" crew (!!) to take a picture for a scene in “The Sixth Extinction” for you. In that episode Mulder’s holding this photo in his hand while talking to that elder man. So you’ve met my host mum and she spent a day behind the scenes and it all just seems so ironic and absurd to me.
Can you imagine spending all your life on this quest? An inner wish so strong, so real, no time left for a rest?
In 2001, I spent my holiday –- guess where –- in the middle of L.A. I was looking out for you guys again, but all I got to see was Robin Williams driving along with me, but honestly in this affair –- does anybody care??
I want to thank you so much for this great inspiration in my life. You have turned these two characters into something so special and you really made it complete. It’s amazing how fast time goes by. Gillian was my age when you all started shooting and now you’re all so … old! I mean, I’m old because now I’m 23, nearly married and my man keeps telling me “You’re so crazy, will you never give up that dream?” and I said “No” -- now he’s coming to the London premiere with me!!! So you all may be older –- we may be older, but it won’t stop here, we’ll be out there, if you ever care. I’m not writing to you as a fan, but someone who tries to understand why I feel so much inspiration, so much of something without explanation. I can’t explain, it is my greatest wish –- still I can’t hide and when we finally meet at the "X-Files" premiere, remember me and remember us, when you’ll be taking a picture with me!

"LONE GUNMEN" PETITION

Hi, this is Spooky666 from Germany, a big "X-Files," "Millennium" and "Lone Gunmen" fan.
Unfortunately, there is still no "Lone Gunmen" DVD box in Germany available, although the show has already been dubbed in German, and was shown on German television many years ago. It would be so cool if you could support this petition for the German fans, so we finally could get a German version of the "Lone Gunmen" on DVD after all these years. This petition just started recently.
Thank you.
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/LoneGunmenDVDBox/

I passed your e-mail along the studio. Unfortunately, they feel there isn't a large enough market for "The Lone Gunmen" on DVD in Germany at the present time, but they may be willing to revisit the issue later.

BILLBOARDS

Billboards for the new movie have started to appear around the country. Send us the most interesting photos of "X-Files" advertisements in your area, and we will post them here.

MYSPACE

I just wanted to bring to your attention the lack of content on your movie's myspace page. No pics, friends, it looks really sad. Here's the link:
http://movies.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=movies.detail&movieid=62003
Especially compared to this:
http://www.myspace.com/wantedmovie
I think any promotion is good, so please get some intern to add content and pimp out the page. XF2 deserves it!
Ciao,
Diana

A fan created the page on MySpace. The studio does have an officially sanctioned page on Facebook, which you can find here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/X-Files-I-Want-to-Believe/29172628944?ref=ts.

MOBILIZATION

A small group of us have started plans to create a little mobilization effort for the film and we are very encouraged by the possibility of global collaborations amongst fans judging from some demographic of groups.
Even if the difference it makes is slight we think this could make a difference. We want to believe it can. I just wanted to know is there any support you can provide regarding this project on or off the record. We had e-mailed before but may have had problems with our e-mail if you replied.
We would appreciate any assistance as this is a major undertaking. We would rather ask and find out it is not available rather than not ask and find out it could have been.
We have created a little site over at www.youtube.com/user/xcircles
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
X-Files Fans on You Tube.
Here is one of the more amusing videos and also one based on a campaign we are looking to kick off to demonstrate the global reach of the show.

Thanks for your efforts! We've passed this along to the studio to see what they can do to help.

STILL MORE THANKS

We just want to say thank you so much for answering our question and all other questions, it means a lot. Thank you so, so much from us and our nerves :) Now we can just relax and wait for 24 July.
The most devoted fans from Russia )))

I have absolutely nothing specific to say and I'm sorry if I invade your e-mail inbox or your blog (which is very dynamic nowadays :D) but just to say thank you again for all you've done and all the time you spent to read those mails.
And it's always a pleasure to hear your interviews and answers on the blog.
Good Luck with everything! And well I wish you all the rest in the world after the big rush in one month. You guys deserve to resttttttt LOL
Take Care,

DAVID IN LONDON?

Do you know if David will be at the London premiere? I want to book my trip to London, but I will only go if David and Gillian will be there together.
Thanks a lot, good luck with the premiere!!! Can't wait for the XF movie... now be patient!
All my best,
Nicole
The Netherlands

Yes, David and Gillian are both planning to attend the London premiere.

PANELS ON DVD?

As a long-time fan, since "Squeeze," I'm so jazzed about the movie like everyone else and am loving all the excitement. I wasn't on the Internet for the first movie. It's great to see the excitement from fans, and that fans get to meet not only you guys but each other, too. I wish I could have gone to some of the events, I could of gone to Wondercon and wish I had, but it's hard with a 5-year-old to take care of, but I've basked in the enjoyment online.
Luckily you answered one of my questions about commentaries on the DVD, I'm glad to know you will be doing them, I figured you and Chris would and we all hope David and Gillian will, too. Can't wait to hear what it was really like as you'll be able to tell us then and would love to hear your thoughts about the whole experience. I was also wondering if the events like WonderCon, Paley, NY Comicon and the L.A. Film Festival will also be on the DVD? It would be great to have them all in one place. Waiting excitedly for July 25th! Hopefully you'll get some rest after all this. Thank you for all you have given us.

Video of the WonderCon panel will be included on the "Revelations" DVD that 20th Century Fox is releasing in July. It's too early to say whether video of any of the other panels will be included when the movie comes out on DVD.

AUSTRALIAN RUMOR (DEBUNKED)

My name is DawnMarie and I'm from Los Angeles. I am soooo looking forward to "I Want To Believe"!!!! (insert girly squeal here!!) I've been really good about avoiding any kind of spoilers for the movie, 1) because you & Chris have been really trying hard to keep the content unveiled until the release date and I really respect you both and admire your professional integrity 2) I just don't want to know until I'm sitting in that theatre! :-)
As a result, I'm still spoiler-sparkly clean! I hear, however, that Australian film distributors Greater Union/Birch Carroll & Coyle have secured advanced screenings of your movie for Wednesday, July 16, as part of its Cinebuzz program. I know it's not a whole bunch of people, but the internet goes everywhere and all it takes is one person to give it all away. And if the intel kept to the fan boards, that'd be cool, but living in Los Angeles as I do, I know how these things can end up on E! or Fox News in a flash!
EEK!!!! I'm going to be walking around for 9 days with my eyes closed, my hands over my ears singing "LALALALALALALALALA!"
Just wondering: do you & Chris know about this? If you've ok'ed it, then I'm content to look silly for 2 weeks...
Thanks for doing what you do!
DawnMarie

Why are you guys allowing the movie to be viewed by the Australian public nearly two weeks before it's released in the U.S.A??????
Australian film distributors Greater Union/Birch Carroll & Coyle (International Distributor of the Year, 2007) have secured advanced screenings of "I Want to Believe" for Wednesday, July 16, as part of its Cinebuzz program.

Firstly, I would like to thank you for answering my previous question and I am sad to hear you will not becoming to Australia. However I do understand the busy schedule you and the rest of the "X-Files" crew are under. Anyway, I was wondering if you could confirm or deny the rumour of an advanced XF2 screening in Australian cinemas on the 16th of July. There was a rumour and I dont know if you would know if this is true. My fingers are crossed that it is because you will get a lot more younger Aussies seeing the movie at this time as it is during our school holiday period. Thanks again.

The rumor is, in fact, just a rumor. There are no plans for an advance screening of the movie in Australia (or anywhere else!).

L.A. PREMIERE INFO?

Pardon if this question has been asked and answered ad nauseum. I have searched many sites and I am unable to ascertain when & where the World Premiere will be held. With the film opening in the U.S. and Australia on/about July 25, and with Gillian guesting on Leno (July 22) and Jimmy Kimmel (July 24), that would lend credence to the rumor that the "Red Carpet" event will be somewhere around July 18.
Surely with one month plus until opening, 20th Century Fox marketing must have a cinema reserved by now.
Thank you for making this movie. Here's hoping for XF3...
Sincerely,
Karl
Los Angeles

This is probably the 1013th e-mail you're getting about this, but do you know the date of the L.A. premiere yet? Luck has landed me in Arizona over the summer, which makes attending the L.A. premiere, and then staying for the movie on the 25th (to watch the movie with other X-Philes! Oy! How amazing it would be!) a possibility. I'm just wondering how long I have to beg off of work. Would you like to tell me the premier is the 23rd or the 24th? Because that would be pretty fantastic!
Best wishes, and thanks again for keeping us updated!
M, AZ

Good Morning Frank; (and???? - do you actually read these, or do you have someone who does that before sending them along?)
There is a rumour floating about regarding the Premiere date -- July 21st seems to be what the buzz is saying... can you confirm this? Also, I realize fans do not get to go to the premiere, at least not all the time, but can you tell me if there might be a chance or opportunity for some of us to attend? Or, will there be a chance to say 'hi' on the red carpet? Sorry for the '20 questions,' as they timer counts down the excitement rises. I've been hearing a 'Frank likes wine rumour;' would that be white or red? *g* I live next to the Similkameen valley, home to a number of award winning wines, many not available except at the winery ......
Angie

I do read each and every e-mail (even the ones that for one reason or another don't get published on the blog). And I'm afraid the studio hasn't quite nailed down details for the Los Angeles premiere just yet, but I do expect it will be sometime after July 21.

INTERNATIONAL VS. DOMESTIC?

Along with everyone else, thanks for actually taking the time to answer some questions -- it’s a rare thing! Also for sharing your talent with us –- I’ve been a long time fan of especially "The X-Files" and "Millennium" -– I love characters like Frank Black and Fox Mulder!
I was just wondering what the differences (if any) were between the movie released in the USA and the “International” scene would be? Why are there different trailers and different posters?
And, strange as this may seem, seeing as the movie hasn’t been released yet -– when can we expect it to be available on DVD so we can add it to our collections (I bought the complete DVD box set with all 9 seasons and the first movie earlier this year, hence the question)?
Thanks
Ani

Aside from language, the movie will be exactly the same all around the world. The marketing of the movie, however, differs from country to country, which is why you see different posters and ad campaigns, as do release dates for DVDs. The domestic release date for the new DVD hasn't been announced yet, but I expect it will be before the end of the year.

JOHN DOGGETT COMICS?

I read yesterday that the new "X-Files" comic book that will be released in July will be taking place between Season 2 and Season 5 of "The X-Files" series. I was wondering if you could explain why the decision was made to place the comic book story back then rather than do a story that takes place after the events of "The Truth" to help explain what happened to all the "X-Files" characters after the series ended and what events have led up to the second "X-Files" movie.
I'm especially interested in knowing what happened to John Doggett after "The Truth" and I was expecting the comic book to explore that to some degree and I don't think the word "disappointed" quite describes the way that I felt when I read that the comic book story is going to take place during a time when Doggett wasn't even a part of the series.
I would like to know why the decision was made to do the story of the comic book during the years when Doggett wasn't around, and also I would like to know that if more "X-Files" comic books are made if John Doggett will be included in the stories, or if he won't because some fans and perhaps even you and Chris are no longer interested in exploring the character of John Doggett (which I would find to be quite a disappointment since Doggett quickly became one of my favorite characters of the "X-Files" series nearly eight years ago).
I want to ask you not to be vague in a response I feel that Doggett fans (and fans of the characters of the last two seasons for that matter) deserve some honesty in knowing if some of their favorite characters are just going to be left alone and we'll never see them again. I know I'm not the only fan of Doggett that is wondering what happened to him and if we'll ever see him again.
Please give us something that is a shimmer of hope among all things Mulder and Scully that are coming out recently. Thank you for your time.

I, too, am a huge John Doggett -- and Robert Patrick -- fan, and would love to revisit his character. Unfortunately, the world of "The X-Files" is too fluid right now to serialize in comic books without competing (and conflicting) with the movie. Setting the comic book series in the past allowed us to dramatize the classic Mulder/Scully dynamic, and bring back a number -- if not all -- of the series' most popular characters. I can't begin to predict what medium he might next appear in, but I, too, am hoping we have not seen or heard the last of John Doggett.

XFILESNEWS.COM

I wanted to write and thank everyone involved with "The X-Files" for posting a link to XFN (www.xfilesnews.com) on the official "X-Files" site. We appreciate the love and we are working very hard to promote this film in any and all ways that we can not only on our site but in our local communities. We look forward to a very exciting 29 days as we await the premiere of "The X-Files: I Want to Believe."
Cheers,

DVD PLEA FROM EUROPE

First of all, I really must say thank you for your generosity in making your inbox and blog (and network!) available to us fans. It really means a lot that we're able to get in touch with you like this and it is very much appreciated :) I'm super-excited about the new movie and for the first time in my life I'm going to do the 'crazy fan thing' and actually travel to another country to see it. There's no way I can make it to the opening, or even the first week, at home so what else is a girl to do? Hee!
I know people have written to you earlier regarding extra material on the XF2 DVD and I've also seen you mention that the Blu-ray is going to be awesome. With that in mind I was wondering if I could make a little request: Is there any way you could ask whoever is in charge of these things to NOT take out any of the extra material from the international DVD releases? I was really disappointed to see that 'The Making of The Truth' documentary was not included on the European Season 9 DVD set (although the booklet claims it's supposed to be on it - go figure!) and I'd hate to see us miss out on the cool stuff once again. I mean, really, this should mean less work for the DVD people - they can't argue with that, can they? ;)
Thanks again!
Jill
Norway

I've passed this along to the studio. They don't expect there will be any problem including all the same material on the international release.

THANKS FROM MEXICO

I’ve been thinking about how to do this for days and I still don’t have a clear idea, so I’ll just let the words come out.
Like all the letters you receive, I’m doing this to try and say thank you. Believe me, there are not enough words to express my feelings and gratitude for you and your work. I started watching "The X-Files" (of course!) when I was 13 and now I am 20. I want to believe I grew up with you and the "X-Files" team, as it immediately changed my point of view about many things in my life and I created an identity for myself from what I was learning from the show. My sister still thinks I’m obsessed, maybe I am, but no one can imagine how this obsession has helped me through all these years. When I was in high school, I “lost” the show for a while, and as a consequence I lost myself. I found myself doing nothing at all for my family and even for me, I didn’t want to study, work or even live until I found a card which I bought, with the words “Nothing disappears without a trace.” It was in that second that I realized I was someone and I wanted to do something, I just had to find myself. Of course I was, and still am, an X-Phile, so I began to watch my recorded tapes and then bought the DVDs. I can tell you they had the same impact on me as they did the first time I watched them, and I found all the strength to make the best of my life. Now I’m studying English Literature (hope we’ll be colleagues one day! heheee) and I just hope that one day I can make an impact on others in the same way you and your work affected my life. Reading the "Fight the Future" script was an indescribable experience, and besides my addiction to Mulder and Scully, I’m addicted to your words, and everything that you write.
I have met some incredible people thanks to the show and I am learning to overcome distances, borders, languages, costumes…
So I guess that is just one more gift from "The X-Files."
I hope, in fact I know, that the movie will be successful, because we, the fans, are still here, maybe with lots of things to do such as school and work… but we are and will always be here, because personally I could never leave the show that has made me who I am today.
I’m even doing the impossible and going to the L.A. premiere, so I hope to see you there!
Many, many thanks for everything and for this space that makes me feel a bit closer to you.
Thank you!!!
Elizabeth

P.S. Mexican fans are ready for "I Want to Believe"!!!

MARK SNOW MUSIC

I have just read two new, insightful interviews with yourself and Mark Snow about his anticipated upcoming score for "I Want To Believe." First, at JOBLO (http://www.joblo.com/arrow/index.php?id=12675) and now at prolific AINT IT COOL NEWS (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37203). Mark Snow's music is truly the third character in the series, and a vital component in the terrific sense of style "The X-Files" boasts that's still unmatched today.
Of particular note in the AINT IT COOL interview is Mark's answer to the oft-asked question, "Are there any plans for future releases of more music from the show?" Mark responded, "They’re talking about this massive compilation of 'The X-Files,' too. But nine years times…it could be ten thousand minutes of music! That would be a real challenge to choose from that much music but I understand that that is in the works too."
This is potentially the most exciting news for "X-Files" fans since production began on "I Want To Believe!" For more than a decade, "X-Files" fans and film score enthusiasts have been campaigning for more releases of Mark Snow's brilliant music underscores from "The X-Files." From online petitions, to questions to Mark himself, to unanswered letters to Fox, there is unwavering interest in the wide-ranging musical tapestry from "The X-Files." Where far lesser series like "Xena: Warrior Princess" and "Babylon 5" (to name but a few) have more than four series soundtracks, "The X-Files" has a mere one, with "The Truth and the Light" (Warner Bros, October 1996). Surprising when "The X-Files" music generates more enthusiasm than most major film scores!
I'm here to tell you that this IS a viable release, and there are tens of thousands of us who would gladly spend our hard-earned money to obtain any such compilation. From casual viewers to "X-Files" fans, from movie music enthusiasts to the vast segment of the audience with a good musical ear, we ALL note the profound impact of Mark Snow's music, and rightfully so. Frank, anything you can do to help us see more music from "The X-Files" released, would make many people very happy. Even an internet-only release, such as the Mark Snow "Millennium" soundtrack released through iTunes a few years ago, would suffice.
The music of "The X-Files" music continues to inspire others. Here is one "X-Files" "fan made" video I produced, based on a selection of Mark's scores from "The X-Files" and "Millennium," about the characters and murky alliegances that flesh out the series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqsynyNoxE8. It's easy to hear why this music deserves to be released.
Keep up the great work, Frank. A month to go!
Lyle
Gold Coast, Australia

We couldn't agree more about Mark's music. Yes, plans are in the works to release a lot more of it, hopefully before the end of this year. As always, we'll let you know details as soon as we can.

FILM FESTIVAL THANKS

I just wanted to add to the many thanks that other fans have expressed for your appearance along with David and Chris at the L.A. Film Festival. It meant so much to me and the roomful of fans. Watching those clips with a theater full of fans with you, David, and Chris waiting for your introductions just felt right. And, I don't know if any of you knew this, but Juliet Landau, the actress who played "Drusilla" on "Buffy" and "Angel" was also among the fans in the line waiting for the panel. I was actually shocked that Ms. Landau, whose father was in the first movie, was in the line with us non-industry types, but you know, she chatted graciously with X-philes who were also fans of "Buffy" and "Angel" plus took pictures with them. It just shows me that "The X-Files" is a unique show that even those involved in other cult shows will recognize its quality and influence plus will not be shy to show their own support and admiration. Only in L.A., but it was very cool to see.
Thank you for signing all of those wonderful movie teaser posters. That was a very generous and gracious gesture that the three of you did, and the fans are eternally grateful. I hope you haven't developed carpal tunnel syndrome after all that signing. :)
I'm glad that Erica gave all of you your thank you posters. It was an honor to sign it and thank you via a ballpoint pen. I don't know if I'll ever feel like I've thanked you enough for all of the years of friendships and entertainment that the show has provided for me.
Thanks again for passing on our concerns to the Fox studios. I'm sure those of us who have expressed our concerns are relieved that Fox is aware of them.
Best wishes for the opening of the movie in about a month. It really is such an exciting time to be a fan of "The X-Files."

X-PHILE IN UAE

First of all... I want to say 'thank you' for making my dreams a reality with the upcoming "X-Files" movie. I'm just totally excited about it and as slow as the days maybe going, I'm pleased nonetheless.
I heard from so many friends that you, Chris and David were signing posters for the L.A. Film Festival and well, I'm really, really upset that I don't live anywhere near there!!!
I've already made Philes out of so many of my friends, who, simply put, dislike the show!!! I sent round the new trailer and a lot of people just fell for the part where Mulder says, "Let's just say, I want to believe." It hit them really hard and I'm really happy I've made 'believers' out of so many people!!
My obsession with "The X-Files" is pretty recent, although I did watch about 10 seconds of (I think it was) "EBE" (since my brother keeps reminding me that there was an alien in there somewhere) when I was 5, back in '94. It freaked us out, but I'd say the love for "X-Files" was kept hidden in there somewhere.
Now, the big question...
Is there any chance that "The X-Files" crew will be making an appearance around the Middle East, particularly in the UAE?
I mean I've seen Planet Hollywood hundreds of times while travelling to other emirates and I've heard of so many stars being there!!
It would be great if it is part of the new movie's promotional work!!
Thanks so much for your time, the time since 1993 and best wishes for future "X-Files" projects... (you really can't stop now, and trilogies are always happening... so, CHEERS to more XF movies in line!!)

We would love to come visit, but unfortunately our schedule is booked solid.

DREAM COME TRUE

My name is Lenka, I'm writing you from Monterrey, Mexico. I'm not Mexican, though. I'm Chilean, and the co-founder of the Chilean X-Files fan club (that we like to call The X-Files Group) along with Francisco Arqueros.
You can't imagine how happy Chilean fans are about your visit -- along with Chris Carter -- to our country. It is more than a dream come true; a ludicrous possibility only achievable in our wildest imagination.
But 10 years ago, when we prepared our first fan convention in a small theatre with less than a hundred seats, the possibility of even reuniting fans in our small and frogotten country was wild. When Francisco and I decided to do it, we had no support whatsoever from any institution. Nothing. We were just a couple of kids (I was 18 at that time) completely alone, renting a theatre and equipment with money we didn't have, hoping that fans would support us cause if they didn't we would… well, go to jail? (It's kind of exaggerated but yes, the thought crossed our minds. Asking for loaned money to rich uncles or selling our computers were also possibilities).
The convention was a huge success. More than 200 fans supported us that day from the farthest reaches of our long country. People who thought that our project was just a childish whim ended up begging for a membership in our "fan club," and a chance to be part of the next convention.
I look behind and I can't help but feel some sort of maternal pride and love for our humble project, which now 10 years later has turned into having Frank Spotnitz and Chris Carter themselves visiting us.
Unfortunately I won't be able to be there to meet you. I've just moved to Mexico with my fiancée so start a new life here. When Francisco told me that you would be coming-- I mean, going -- to Chile for the convention, I felt sad because I knew that it would be nearly impossible for me to travel back to my country to see you, since I have just arrived here (I knew I should have bought that private jet the other day…). But despite that sadness, I'm tremendously happy for all the fans down there in Chile. They deserve it, especially Francisco, for believing in a dream and making it true. I have great old friends among them, and they have told me about their excitement. I live that excitement through them. And some day in the future I'm sure I'll be able to meet you in some other opportunity, somewhere else in the world =)
I wish you a wonderful trip to Chile. I hope you have the chance to know a little bit about our country and our people. I'm sure their warmth and kindness will leave you wanting to come back.
And of course, thank you so much for choosing us. We won't let you down.
With affection and gratitude,
Lenka Yerkovich
PS: Grab some warm clothes because it is cold down there in my country!
PS2: I have a degree in English Literature and Linguistics, and I'm also an English/Spanish/Japanese translator and interpreter. I would be more than happy to help you translate letters you receive in Spanish from Chilean (and Latin-American) fans. You probably have a lot of people helping with that already, but maybe you can still use some help from this humble server.

WOW!

First, can I just say, "WOW!!" I thought I was excited before but, now... well... words just cannot express. LOL.
I attended the L.A. Film Fest event this past Sunday, my two boys in tow. The first, Garrett, is almost 17 and, has been watching the show, in reruns, for the past several years. Never frightened by much, there are times when Garrett, at 17, still gets a good scare when watching an episode. Graham, my youngest, is 12 and has only recently started to show any interest in the show. Good news is, he too, loves it. Graham, however, doesn't want to sleep alone in his room, after watching many of the episodes. LOL. (He adores "Arcadia"). I didn't force my so-called addiction onto my children. They've come to love the show, strictly by choice. An entire new generation, of X-Philes. You mentioned, at the event, that you'd like to think of "The X-Files" as a show that would go on, and be remembered much like "The Twilight Zone." If my children are any indication, your "little television show that could" will continue to generate, even in reruns, entire generations of new fans, for decades to come. Many thanks to you, for taking the time to attend and to sign the posters. The boys were tickled to receive them. We all were. They will definitely have something to talk about when they return to school back in the Midwest, after their summer break here in Arizona. Thank you, so very much, for helping me to create such an awesome memory that, I am sure, will linger in their thoughts for years to come. Please express my gratitude to Mr. Duchovny and Mr. Carter as well. We had such a great time...
Take Care,
Tracee

L.A. FILM FESTIVAL

Hello! I haven't written to you for a couple of weeks and I don't want you to be worried :) It's 11.30 p.m. and I just got back from the L.A. Film Festival and I feel that I really need to share my thoughts with someone, and you are probably the most appropriate person right now... I want to tell you how I spent the last two days, because pretty much you created them...
Yesterday night I met so many amazing people that I can't still believe it happened: in fact, I was at the "X-philes" dinner with people form everywhere, Florida, Canada, northern California, England (yes, Gia was with us!!) and so and so... we spent the night quoting lines from our favorite episodes, singing "Walking in Memphis" and "Joy to the World," making jokes about how you guys created a sexually frustrated generation (like my friend Francesca defines us)... in other words we had so much fun that you can't even imagine... ah, we also made interviews (I made one both in English and Italian... so, remember how much I humiliated myself for the show!!) in order to promote the movie...
Then the great event finally arrived, the event that everybody was waiting for, the event that allowed me to meet great fans (that are also great persons) but also you, David, and Chris. I'm at home right now and I'm trying to understand if it actually happend. Everything was so perfect, from the clip (ok, just let me say that I'm shocked, but I still trust you and my shipper soul won't freak out, don't worry) to your answers... you're totally right, we love the way you're keeping everything secret and you completely understood how much the fans love you guys and the show... we're still here and we will always be here, you saw us, you heard us screaming for every single word you said, and you saw that the X-philes are the most loyal fans ever!
I want to say thank you. I met great people and it seemed we had been friends since the high school just because we love the same show so much. I met you guys (David for the first time, and it was pretty intense!!) and I couldn't imagine something better. I had the poster with all the signatures and I'm going to sleep with it in a few minutes... what can I say? I signed the "thank-you-posters" (thank you Erica for your job!) but I feel I need to thank you again because this experience gave me so much.
Maybe we'll see you again at the London premiere (yes, it's time to go back in Europe for me... or, if you want, you can adopt me for the green card)... right now, the only thing that I can say is "thank you for having created my religion!!"
Carlotta

Hi Frank!
Apologies for this additional email (but how cool that you invite multiple emails from the same fans) as I had a question about the availability of the L.A. Film Festival clips. However, I also wanted to relay a fun little story:
My sister (who is 7 years younger than me) has been visiting from Florida for the past week. She was only 3 years old when the series premiered, and when I was at the height of my "X-Files" love -- catching up on the reruns that had only just begun on FX, and gearing up for "Fight the Future" to be released -- she would tease me relentlessly. "Enough with Scully," she would say, and roll her eyes. "Nobody wants to hear what Scully would do in this situation! Nobody cares!" Well, fast forward about 10 years. My sister was spending the night on my couch, and I was leaving for a work-related event just as she had plundered my DVD collection, which I had left out from having only just unearthed it myself. "I guess I'll see the movie," she said, examining the DVDs. "I just want to know what the hell the big deal was all those years." So I told her to watch a few of my favorite episodes, including the pilot. She shrugged and popped in a DVD as we both agreed that there was nothing good on TV on a Friday night. Then I left for my event. When I returned home around 2am, I found my sister STILL sitting on the couch, in the dark, and STILL watching "The X-Files." She actually looked a little like Scully watching those tapes from "Wetwired." Astonished, I asked her how many episodes she had watched while I was gone, and she answered, "7." Then she looked at me with bleary eyes and said, "I can't stop watching this. I literally cannot stop. Why do Mulder and Scully never kiss?"
Needless to say, my sister -- the one who used to tease me relentlessly -- is now completely hooked. Every day that she's been here visiting, I've come home to find her watching yet another episode of the show. And now, not only is she dying to see the new movie (she inisists that she's going to drag about 16 friends) we've also been able to connect on an adult level about something that was so big a part of my adolescence. So thank you, again, for creating something so enduring. It's a blast now to rediscover the show with my little sister.
That said, here's my question: Do you have any idea whether the clips shown at the L.A. Film Festival will be made available online? I live on the other coast and couldn't be at the event, but would love to see them.
Thanks again for reaching out to us fans! Still countining down the days until XF2!
Jaime

I actually just wanted to thank you so much for everything you've done for us [the fans]. I attended the L.A. Film Festival last night and was just blown away by, well... everything. I had a great time and absolutely LOVE the signed poster. I met a lot of new friends and doubt I would have had this experience without you. Thank you for keeping up such an informative blog, for being so accessible to the fans, and for your role in the making of the new movie. Thank you again.
Heather
Riverside, CA

I would like to say thank you for attending the L.A. Film Fest last night and for participating in the panel discussion, giving us some new, if vague insight into the movie. Also I would like to thank you for helping provide the posters that were given to us as we left the theatre, that went above and beyond the call of duty to your fans and I really appreciate it. Here's my question, I was wondering what your reaction to our reaction was? What does it feel like to you, Chris Carter and David Duchovny when hundreds of people are screaming and yelling at a venue like last evening's over something you made? I thought of this after we started yelling over seeing the place and time stamp on the clip much like in the ones in the episodes, what is it like for them being backstage and hearing that cheer? Any insight you feel like providing is most welcome. Thank you so much!
Marci
Monrovia, CA

The clips we showed last night will be made available (in a slightly shortened version) online. As you might imagine, last night was just great for the three of us and a lot of fun. We would like to thank you for your warm support and enthusiasm (and for the signed posters you gave us!). Coming back to "The X-Files" has been a wonderful experience for all of us.

KRYCEK IN COMICS?

First, thank you so much both for all of your hard work on "The X-Files" and for taking the time to answer questions from fans. It's very greatly appreciated.
I'm eagerly looking forward to the release of XF2 this month, but I'm also looking forward to the new comics coming out.
I was wondering whether we might get to see Krycek, since the comics will be set during Seasons 2-5? I was delighted to read that Skinner and the Lone Gunmen might make appearances in print, but Krycek still has a lot of fans and we always hope we might get to see more of him!
Thank you very much,
Kathleen
Indianapolis

Although I can't tell you specifically when he will make an appearance in the Wildstorm comics, our hope is that Krycek will appear in the stories, along with Skinner, the Cigarette-Smoking Man, the Syndicate, the Lone Gunmen, X and many other characters from those years, such as Melissa Scully and even Agent Pendrell.

FULL CIRCLE

First and foremost, I would like to join the many other fans in saying THANK YOU for making the new movie a reality and for keeping in constant contact with us through your fantastic blog. Every comment and response I read, from your gracious offer to sign posters for the L.A. Film Fest to your willingness to jump into our hot debate about the "Per Manum" timeline, reminds me how honored I am to be an X-Phile.
I am feeling especially excited and nostalgic today in light of yesterday being the 10 year anniversary of the first movie hitting theaters and today being my own 10 year anniversary of being a Phile. I am one of those elusive fans who had never seen the show before the movie was released. I was 15 years old at the time, and to this day I cannot remember what I was doing that could possibly have been a better use of my time.
My friend saw the movie on opening night, loved it and couldn't wait to see it again asap. She had been trying to recruit me for years, so when she asked me to go with her to see the movie the following night, I agreed, despite my lack of background. Before the movie started, I asked my friend what I needed to know so I would not be lost. She simply stated (which I didn't know at the time) the famous Chris Carter line, "Mulder loves Scully and Scully loves Mulder." "That's it?" I asked. "That's it." she responded.
Needless to say, that WAS all I needed to know, and it was love at first sight for me. I caught up on seasons 1-5 in record time and jumped into the first-run episodes the day Season 6 began. Now, 10 years later, just as "The X-Files" has done multiple times, I have come full circle, ready to introduce some of my friends to the show through the new movie, and ecstatic to see this one through the eyes of the well-informed teacher rather than the new student. Speaking of being a student, "The X-Files" has also inspired me to study Science - I graduated from college with a degree in Microbiology and am now working on my Ph.D. doing research in Biomedical Science.
I also wanted to say another thanks to you, Chris, Gillian, David and the entire cast and crew (especially the location scouts) throughout the years, for your hard work and dedication that has brought such an amazing phenomenon into all of our lives. I now have an even deeper respect for the amount of effort that went into the show after my best friend (who I introduced to the show during Season 9) and I traveled to Vancouver for our own "X-Files" experience. We (and our Mulder and Scully dolls) visited many old filming locations, both downtown and around the city, from the Seymour Demonstration Forest (it was a nice trip to the forest, even the long walk down to AND back up from the Twin Bridges), Grouse Mountain (but we didn't climb on the roof of the Skyride car), Capilano College (man, that place is hard to find on foot), and the Vancouver Aquarium (yes, we paid just to see the shark tank).
We even made it out to Riverview (talk about CREEPY, especially at night) for an IWTB set visit. If you saw or heard about four females (we met up with some local Philes) standing in the cold for a few hours with a black dog (who was hoping to see Larry), just taking it all in and honored to be so close to the magic that is XF, that was us!
If you want a good laugh or a creative reminder of how dedicated your fans are, here are two albums illustrating how much fun we (and Mulder and Scully) had visiting your old stomping grounds. Spoiler Warning: contains some M & S PDA.

I can't wait to come out to L.A. for the big premiere (whenever it is!), and I just want to end by saying that, as I'm sure you know by now, the fans ARE out there, and we won't let you down on July 25!!

Hey Frank! Thanks for all your hard work on "The X-Files!" We're all very excited for IWTB.

BETRAYED?

Recently, even more often than usual there have been words in the press ostensibly said by David. Here's one of them:
"What's going on with Mulder when we see him in the film?"
"There's a six-year gap for us and for them also and the gap has been filled in an interesting manner. Mulder's having a career crisis and there's definitely an emotional sense of things going on in his life in terms of WOMEN that would not have happened in the series. I think people will be surprised and a little shocked at what has happened in those six years."
We don't want to ask you to tell us anything, we just want to say that the statements like this one make us really upset. We don't want our favorite series to turn into the usual, useless soap opera. We don't want to believe that we'll get dissapointment and pain after all those years of love, respect and expectations.
We admire that relationship that exists between Mulder and Scully. It's true love, we don't want to believe in this, we DO BELIEVE!
The most betrayed fans from Russia

I'm not sure where that quote came from, but I can assure you it's not accurate. Remember: "Trust no one."

SORE HANDS

I just got this image in my head of you, Chris and David sitting around one of your homes with hundreds of posters passing them between you all to sign. The fact that you are doing this for everyone trying to make it to the L.A. Film Festival is just astounding and I cannot imagine the creators of any other show wanting to, let alone agreeing to do something like this. You guys are all truly amazing and while I can’t make it, I wish you all the best of luck and a lot of fun while there. Happy signing!

SOUNDTRACK

Hey there! My name is Meghann. I'm a journalism major from Alabama. I have been a phile and a Mulder/Scully shipper for six years. First, before I ask my question, I would like to thank you for your talent, and all of the hard work you did in the past for the series and in the present for this movie. I know every phile in the world could not be more grateful to you and every individual who took part in making what felt like a dimming light of hope into a current reality. Me and my phile friends are counting down the days and we cannot believe it's almost here! It's surreal.
And as for my question, I was wondering if there are any plans for an "X-Files 2" soundtrack? I know Xzibit mentioned on his MySpace that he has recorded a song for the movie. Some of my phile friends and I have been wondering if the original score was the only album that was to be released for this film? If you can give any information on this, I would be so very appreciative. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Best of luck and warm wishes to you and the entire "X-Files" crew!!!
Meghann

Yes, a soundtrack album will be released on Decca Records. It consists predominantly of Mark Snow's beautiful new score.

AUTOGRAPHS (CONT'D)

First of all, you get a big HIGH FIVE and smile from every Phile that will be in attendance this Sunday.
The fact that you, Chris, and David are getting together before hand to show us some love is so fantastic! Everyone I have spoken to so far is incredulous that you guys are taking the time to appreciate us fans.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
BTW, if you and the rest of the XF are not busy this Saturday, I would like to invite you to our Phile dinner at the Chevy's in Encino. Thre are 20 of us so far and I will make sure you are not hounded by the fans if you can make it. We would just like to enjoy your company.
Again, thank you so much for all you have done for us fans. We will continue to spread the word about the new film.
Erica
California

I'm sure you're getting sick of hearing about this, but I was hoping you could clarify. The last post made it sound like everyone was leaving with an autographed poster. I think the seating capacity is like 500 so I just wanted to check if that was indeed accurate (and if so VERY generous) or if I should do the crazy fan thing and get there super early to make sure I get one. Also, will all three of you be signing one item or will you be divvying it up so that people will randomly walk away with one of the 3 autographees. I'm very excited so just want to make sure I do it right.
Winston
Los Angeles

First of all, thank you so much for reading all that we fans write to you and posting them on your blog here. We really appreciate it! Also, thank you for making the autograph arrangements for the L.A. Film Fest! That is so generous of you, Chris and David to sign those posters for the fans! As a newer fan (I’m 18 and was too young to watch the show when it was on TV), I’m very excited to hear you guys talk about the movie on Sunday! Thanks for everything you do!
McKenna

I'm sorry I can't make the get-together Saturday night, but I can pledge that there will be enough signed posters for everyone who attends the Film Festival on Sunday. As for how many autographs will be on each poster, that depends on how tired our hands get the next few days...!

AUTOGRAPHS?

Any news for us fans (some are traveling from outside California and the U.S. especially for this event) on a scheduled, organized autograph session at this Sunday's Film Festival? Sorry to bother you. Keep up the great work!
Erica

This has been a tough one, because we know how many people want autographs and don't want to disappoint any of them. The Film Festival didn't allow additional time (or space) for an autograph session when they booked our appearance, and they aren't able to move any of their other events to accommodate us. The only solution we've been able to come up with (and we know it's an imperfect one), is that Chris, David and I will sign posters in advance and distribute them on Sunday night. It's not the same as having a face-to-face autograph session, but at least no one who attends (and wants an autograph) has to worry about walking away empty-handed.

"X-FILES" TRACKS

I met you a while back at the San Diego Comic Con. I'm writing you because I hoped to share my two "X-Files" tracks with other "X-Files" fans and hope to drum up even more buzz for the return of Mulder and Scully. I would love to see several more films after this one! "I Want To Believe" is the first track and "Your Love's An X-File."
Hope you dig them!

OUR THOUGHTS

We just wanted to write to say we really appreciate your taking the time to answer fan questions on Big Light, and also for the social network that now consumes a large quantity of our time. We look forward to your eventual response to the "Per Manum" timeline question [when you have a chance to answer it, of course], as we Philes have been buzzing about that one for years. We must admit, though, part of the fun has always been drawing our own conclusions anyway, so much so that we've started a little blog with our interpretations. If you happen to be curious, we have our own "Per Manum" timeline at http://emmceesquared.wordpress.com/2008/05/29/existence/. The ambiguity of certain aspects has truly allowed the story lines to continue to unravel and grow well after the series has ended.
Thank you for continuing to share your thoughts on the series with fans like ourselves, all these years later.
Cheers,
Caileigh & Morgan

OTHER WRITERS RETURN?

Thanks for posting and answering my previous questions. This time I was wondering about future movies. This is a question I had actually sent to the folks at the Paley Fest but my question wasn't asked to the "X-Files" panel. I thought I'd have a better chance if I went straight to the source. If you are given the opportunity to produce a third "X-Files" film, would you and Chris Carter write the story again, or would you consider collaborating with any former series writers?
Thanks,
Andy H.
East Peoria, IL

I honestly don't know, Andy. We're just focused on trying to make this movie a success right now. It's hard to predict where the future may lead.

MULDER'S FATHER?

I'm still confused about who is Fox Mulder's father? Was it really Bill Mulder or Cigarette-Smoking Man? Also, would Mulder and Scully have access to their weapons in future or would they be reinstated to the FBI? As most of the magazine articles are still articulating that it's a story of two FBI agents.
Nadia

I'm reluctant to try answering any more questions from memory, but my recollection is that -- while it appears the Cigarette-Smoking Man believed he was Mulder's biological father -- the series never definitively answered the question one way or another.
As for whether Mulder and Scully are reinstated at the FBI in the new movie... you'll have to wait and see!

AUSTRALIA?

Hi Frank, I was just wanting to thank you for everything and to tell you how excited I am after seeing the new trailer. I would be what you might call a new generation "X-Files" fan as i am too young to remember the show when it was on TV. I got into it last year after studying an episode in my English class. I am really glad your making the new movie as I may be able to hook my friends onto the show. So thank you. Also i was wondering if Australia will be getting any appearances from you, Chris, David or Gillian in the near future or for the premiere. If you have any news about whats happening in Australia I would really appreciate it. Thank you again.
Keeley
Sydney, Australia

Not at the present time, Keeley. I'll let you know if that changes.

SAMANTHAS

I appreciate so much your generosity with your time and energy! I imagine you read some pretty strange stuff, but I still think it's great for us to be able to contact you and get feedback about various things.
My twin sister and I were watching "Herrenvolk" yesterday and ended up figuring out how old Vanessa Morley would be now (answer: 22 - two years older than us), which is strange, since we always guessed that one of the reasons Vanessa didn't play 14-year-old Samantha in "Closure" may have been because she didn't look the right age. But Vanessa *was* 14 in 2000, so why was Mimi Paley cast? Was it not possible to bring Vanessa down from Vancouver?
Thank you! We're can't wait for the movie!
Kristen and Courtney

Good catch! You're exactly right. But aside from any difficulties attempting to bring Vanessa down from Vancouver to reprise the role, there was something interesting about the ambiguity of casting another face altogether in the role (and you know we like ambiguity at "The X-Files!").

LARRY KING?

Any idea if any of the movie promotion will take place on "Larry King Live?" My husband e-mailed them about having everybody on as a fun hour.
Just a thought.
Thanks!
Tracy

I don't know yet, but -- once I have them -- I'll make as many media details available as I can.

FEEL THE SAME

I read the e-mail from the Argentinian fan, and I feel the same way. "The X-Files" was my transition from childhood to adulthood. I'm 32 years old now, a teacher, and when I work with children, I tell them stories about "The X-Files."
Thanks for the best years of my life. I'm waiting for you and Chris in my home country, Chile, a very mysterious place...
Please read "The Trojan Horse," by J.J. Benitez (and make history again).

DVD EXTRAS?

First of all, I need to say my own personal Thank You. I have been an "X-files" fan from the beginning and part of the very much alive and kicking fandom for almost as long. So naturally I have been reading your blog since you created it and it's been wonderful to see you post so many of my friends' e-mails. However, I felt it was time to drop you a line myself.
I want you to know how much a hero you are to the fans. You are like the cool uncle of the XF universe because you actually talk straight with us! I mean we love all the mystery created by the show and now the movie (and for that reason I don't want to ask you to answer anything about the show itself) but I love that you have made yourself available to us. And adore the fact that you are so honest - hehe "Per Manum" flashbacks!
I also have a question. I know it seems a little early to ask this before the movie even hits theatres, but I know how fast things can move in this industry so... have you already planned extras for the DVD release? I ask because I am desperately hoping for a joint commentary from you, Chris, Gillian and David. All these years on, the episode commentaries are something that still I love to listen to. It's wonderful to have access to that kind of insight. And I think it would amazing to hear you all discuss your thoughts on the movie together. (Gillian's commentary with Danny Dyer and Dan Read is for "straightheads" is on my iTunes. I would sell a kidney to have a IWTB commentary to go with it!!).
Thanks again for your generosity with your time. I am sooooooo excited for the release. I fly to NY on the 24th July so I will arrive just in time to sleep off my jet lag and catch it on opening night!
Ellen
Milton Keynes, England

I don't know if they will be done together, but we are planning to include commentaries -- and as many other cool features as we can pack onto the DVD and Blu-Ray discs!

FANS AT THE PREMIERE(S)

Thank you for your fast reply for my question about the London premiere.
And I'm totally sorry but I also have another question. Will there be a chance for us (normal people - Philes) to get tickets for the premiere? I know that premieres are mostly for the actors and the producers and other VIP's, but I thought I could ask.
I'm sorry for taking your time again to read another mail from me. I appreciate it that you are taking your precious time to read all the mails.
Byebye and many greetings from Germany
Manuela (aka spookydogstar)
P.S. At the end I want to say THANK YOU for the help you've given to the German Philes. We get our "du" in the translated version. ;-)

Details of the premieres are still being worked out. I'll be sure to share them with you once they're finalized.

CAN'T WAIT FOR JULY

Thank you for answering fan questions with so much consideration and attention to detail. Big Light is really making itself accessible in a way that most production companies would never dream of. I hope you're enjoying us as much as we're enjoying you.
As more and more visual material from "X-Files 2" is released, I'm noticing that it really does resemble early "X-Files" -- the dark look, eerie feeling, and characters that aren't overly glamorized (but are of course still attractive). We are going to be scared out of our wits the summer. I can't wait for July!
Thanks again,
Lisa

MORE TRAVELS?

I'm from Brazil and I would like to know if there is a chance you and Chris might come to Brazil to promote the movie. I'm sure you are going to love our country. It's a beautiful place. Here we have so many fans. We've never forgotten the series and we never will.
We are very excited about this movie and to be honest i can't stop thinking about the story.
I'm 26 years old now and I started watching "The X-Files" from the beginning. I watched all nine years.
I have the DVDs and I'm showing them to my friends (those who didn't watch the series) to make them go to the thetaers with me (and they told they'll go).
Kisses,
Tassia
P.S: Sorry if i wrote something wrong.

Hello Frank! I'm a Spanish "X-Files" fan (and yours, too, of course!) and the site administrator of Finalternativo (www.finalternativo.com) which is our little tribute to the show, and I would like to ask you in the name of many Spanish fans if you thought of coming to Spain to promote "XF2: I Want To Believe."
We would be delighted if you visited us because we love you so much in our country!
I look forward to hearing from you! And thank you very much for your patience and attention!!
Lots of kisses from Finalternativo and Spain,
Diana

This is my question: Is it possible that someone from "The X-Files" team would come to Ecuador to promote the film or for any other event in the future?
I am very happy about the new film, I follow with enthusiasm every piece of news, and I know "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" will be a great success.
Thank you for all your work in the amazing history of "The X-Files" -- in the TV series, the movie "Fight the Future," all the presentations, events, and for all your talented contributions.

We would love to make all these trips, but our schedule (so far) doesn't permit it. As always, if that changes, I will be sure to let you know.

AUTOGRAPHS!

Hello!! I tell you immediately that I'm sorry for this because you are going to received at least 400 e-mails about the same thing: the autographs at the LA film festival! We have been told that the only way to set up an organized session with you, Chris and David is a panelist speaking directly with the festival people. So, I'm writing to you because you are a veeeeeeery patient person who reads everything and listens to the fans' voice even when people keep asking the same questions thousands times. And I write because I need to meet you guys again before going back to Italy!!
Please talk with the festival people..pleaseeeeeeee!!!
Thanks in advance because I know you'll do your best to realize our request!!

I'm sure you will be receiving hundreds of emails exactly like this one, but I am still putting in my voice. I would love it if you, david and chris would agree to schedule an organized autograph session at the L.A. Film Festival. Several people have been calling the L.A. Film Festival box office, and they have said that they have no problems with an autograph session. All that needs to be done to make it happen is for someone on the guest panel to contact the L.A. Film Festival people and tell them that you would like to set up an autograph session.
WE ALL LOVE YOU GUYS! some of us have been waiting 10 years or more to be in the same room as the geniuses that created "X-Files." PLEASE do autographs!
Sincerely another devoted fan,
Jamie

First things first, I’d like to thank you personally. You’ve created a direct line of communication with fans through your blog, and for taking the time to do this, I am both sincerely impressed and grateful.
Many of the fans who plan to attend the upcoming L.A. Film Fest are hoping that an autograph session of some sort may be arranged, and according to the festival organizers, it would be up the panelists (in this case, yourself, Chris, and David) to give the go ahead. I’d love the opportunity to meet you all and thank you in person while I’m there, and something authorized, organized, and controlled sounds like a much better idea than frenzied philes, leaping at the stage. I’d love to think my fellow fans would behave themselves, but you know, can’t blame ‘em for getting excited.

My fellow X-Philes and I would love if you all would have an autograph session at the L.A. Film Festival. My 13-year-old daughter and I went to Wonder Con and Paley Fest and will be attending the Film Fest (she wasn't even born when XF started on TV). She was excited to get an autograph from Chris at Paley but was not able to get one from you with all the people there, and she would be really excited to get one from David as well. Here's your chance to reach out to the new generation of "X-Files" fans! Thank you!
Valerie

I'm very much looking forward to the X-Files event at the L.A. Film Festival. When I picked up the tickets, one of the festival coordinators suggested that it was up to the panel to approve autographs, etc after the session. And today I saw a note on the Big Light social network that confirms that the festival itself would have no problem setting something up, or supporting your efforts should the panel allow it.
You know where I'm going with this, don't you?
I feel slightly guilty asking for you, Chris and David to extend the time you are already generously giving—but not guilty enough not to ask. :) Would you please consider allowing an organized autograph event after the panel Q&A?
Thank you for all you’ve already done!
Kate

I was wondering if you or someone from the XF team would speak to the film festival coordinators about having an autograph session after the XF event. There is no other event scheduled after the XF sneak peak, so this can work.
I just spoke to the box office and was told there are 2 ways to have this done:
1. The XF panel speaks directly to the festival people and sets up an organized session in the theater. It's timely, efficient, and everyone is happy.
or
2. The 500 fans in the theater scream, yell, plead, beg, and sell their first born children to you to make you make them set up an on the spot area for autographs. I see potential for problems is a select few people get out of hand, or you and the rest of the panel are stuck there later than necessary since there is no order.
I know there are several fans coming from other parts of California, other U.S. states, and even from other countries so far I know of Canada and England) who would very much appreciate meeting the three of you up close and personal.
Please consider my request (and I'm sure the requests of other Philes) in this matter. I would consider it to be very special and monumental.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

We hear you! We've already asked the Festival if they can accommodate autograph signing. We'll let you know what they say.

FUNDRAISER

I am putting together a fan fundraiser for one of Gillian Anderson's favourite charities ALINYIIKIRA JUNIOR SCHOOL -- in honour of Gillian's 40th birthday and in honour of the long awaited release of the second "X-Files" movie, "I Want to Believe."
The school is need of basic supplies and every pound or dollar you can spare will go so very far to help. I hope to raise $1000 which which would pay for a full year’s tuition for 6 children.
A group of fans will be getting together in London on the UK release day on Friday August 1st to view the new film for the first time. We will then all gather for lunch, drinks and general merriment and hopefully all donate what we can. Depending on numbers we can make this as big or small an event as you like. All fans are welcome regardless of whether or not donations are made.
If you are unable to attend on Friday but are planning to be at the premiere in Leicester Square on Wednesday July 30 you can donate then – there will be many of us there, please ask for myself (Dana) or Jo – who is organising the Premiere get together.
I was involved in the Black and White Party after the play What the Night is For which was very successful both in terms of FUN and money raised. I’d love to do something again but this can only happen if we can get enough people! So if you think you may like to attend, please let me know as soon as possible.
Donations can be made online for people unable to attend who would still like to be involved.
Names of contributors will be included (unless requested otherwise) in a card to be sent to Gillian. Regretfully I am unable to pass on personal letters or gifts to Gillian on your behalf.
All suggestions are very welcome, and please feel free to post details of this fundraiser on any websites or forums.
Any questions, get in touch.

FANTIES

Your frequently updated blog has really endeared you to the fans. We cannot express enough how much we appreciate your honesty, sincerity, and willingness to talk to us. "Frank fangirl" is a now a common term on Haven boards! Anyway, I think many of us are becoming as devoted to you as we are to the show (but not in an obsessive, stalkerish, analyze every-single-move-he-makes way as we are with "The X-Files"). In a fit of Frank-awe inspired by a late night chat in the XFN chatroom, these were created: cafepress.com/moxed
We call them Fanties.
Thanks for everything.

I am speechless.

SOUNDTRACK?

I'm sure you have been asked this question a thousand times over, but do you know anything about "The X-Files" movie soundtrack, if there's going to be a CD released? Both theatrical music, and Various Artists?
Thank you for taking the time to answer fans questions from all over the world. We love you for it!

There will be a soundtrack released on CD, consisting mainly of Mark Snow score with some other artists' songs as well. Look for more details soon!

OBSESSED AGAIN

Hello, Frank! I have a question... but I wanted to share with you my past with "The X-Files." My apologies if this ends up being really long and borinG -- feel free to stop reading at any time!
I know you get this a lot but I've been a fan of "The X-Files" since I was 10 -- and that was in Season 5 and so I didn't get to enjoy the first years of the show like many others did. I loved sitting on the couch with my older sister while my dad was on the floor laying in front of the TV with a pillow under his arm while he snacked on a huge bag of David sunflower seeds and we all watched "X-Files" together. lol. True story.... every Sunday morning we would go to church and every night we'd watch it together... it was sort of our family time -- in a disfunctional sort of way. Who says TV can't be a positive thing?
The funny thing is I was never scared of the show -- until a year ago when I became... obsessed again. I was watching the TV Guide Channel and on Sci-Fi it said "X-Files" and I remember saying... oh- I remember that! Because it had been five years since I stopped watching.
Anyway... it was the episode "Space" and it freaked me out as an adult to watch the face on the ceiling. After that -- I was hooked again. Now I'm more obsessed than ever! And in that year -- I have spent countless amounts of money on the DVDs, (I actually ended up with 3 FTF), books, and more recently magazines, posters, and WonderCon. WonderCon was an experience in itself! I was shaking SO bad the whole time that my brother-in-law who I dragged with me felt it. I had butterflies like never before! But... I couldn't contol myself and I screamed at David and he waved to me! Well.... sort of.... Hopefully I can go to the premiere but I'm broke so probably not.
I have gotten pretty much everyone I know excited for XF2 and I -- like so many other Philes want this movie to do extremely well so we can have an XF3! I guess all that other stuff was unnecessary but I ramble-- sorry! Anyway -- I love the work and dedication that you and everyone else has for this show and I can't thank you enough for bringing it back!
And now for the question! I don't know if it's been asked yet but I was wanting to know if there is going to be any action figures/figurines/toys... or whatever you call them in the stores after this movie like there was for FTF. Wow -- that was a short question for such a long post.
Thank you!

I don't have specifics yet on what merchandise is coming out in connection with the feature, but I don't believe there will be any action figures or toys this time around.

A LIFE PRESERVER

I've debated whether or not to share this story, as most people in my life don't know of my troubles over the last few years. But as I meet and talk with more Philes and read e-mails posted here, I realize that what "The X-Files" did for me isn't that much different than what it's done for others. And for all this show has done for me, the least I can do is share me experience and say how grateful I am that "The X-Files" and now IWTB are a part of my life.
For people who have never been depressed it's hard to understand what that means, but I think in its most basic form, it's like being trapped under water, and no matter how hard you swim for the surface, you can't get your head above water. I was numb to the world, and wanted nothing more then to make it all go away and get out of my own head. I kept waiting for someone to throw me a life preserver, give me something, anything, to pull myself up by.
And then, came the announcement of XF2.
My life preserver.
I grabbed on, and slowly started to pull myself up. Within in a few weeks, I was posting in a thread at the Haven, some battle about M&S and whether or not they're together in "I Want to Believe," and all of the sudden, I felt. I cared. I wanted to know what happens to them, I actually cared what happened to them.
I hadn't cared about anything in a very long time.
And slowly, over the next few weeks and months, I started to feel other things, other emotions that were long dead. My therapist said that whatever I was holding onto, not to let it go, and keep myself swimming. So that's what I did, I've held on tight to the XF2 and have kept myself afloat.
Each day, I get better. Stronger. And people are telling me how beautiful my smile is again. They didn't say that for a long time.
I owe this movie and this show my life. If it hadn't have come along back when it did, it wouldn't be here for me now, and I wouldn't OK again. I don't know exactly what it is about Mulder and Scully or "The X-Files" that makes it able to touch myself and others like this, but I am eternally grateful that it does.
So I'd like to say thank you to you Frank, and to Chris, to David and Gillian, and everyone who ever worked to bring this show and this movie to life. I don't know where I'd be right now without it.
P.S. I've since "graduated" from therapy and through a strict regime of diet, exercise, and me time I'm doing amazingly and am back on the path that I want to be in.

WHAT IT MEANS TO ME

(Translated from Spanish; the original e-mail follows)
Frank, Chris and the rest of the team,
I ask you to excuse me beforehand because my English is not good enough to write things as I mean them. I hope someone knows Spanish and can translate my e-mail.
My story is that I am 25 years old and I am the graduate of a program called Design of Image and Sound. I have been a fan of "The X-Files" since I was 11 years old. Some friends ask me 'Do you still like it?' and i reply to them that I do because this is the best series of all time!!!! It bothers me a lot that "Lost" is the fashionable thing to like these days, but one must keep in mind that the Internet has helped them a lot.
The merits of the fans of "The X-Files" is that we are very devoted and yet we are not used to these new technologies, above all here in Latin America. We fans watched all the programs or specials that spoke of "The X-Files" or Gillian or David. Or we stayed awake until 3 or 4 in the morning to see the repeats of episodes that we already had seen at 7 in the evening. Now there are many sites on the Internet about the show, but they weren't when the series began. In my opinion, "Lost" wants to imitate "The X-Files" in many aspects, but i do not believe that they will manage to have unconditional fans 15 YEARS after the beginning of the series, as is the case with us and "The X-Files."
But I want to convey what "The X-Files" signifies for me because so I can explain why at times it feels as if the series were written for me solely. It is a program that describes very well the human being and all its contradictions.
The series knows that in the world there are many impossible interests to reconcile. It knows that when men negotiate with the devil they lose their liberty. It knows that one must have ideals and seek the truth and justice, although the road will be painful and filled with anguish. But aside from all of this, it's a program that incorporates people and places of all types, teaching that no one must discriminate, but they should seek to know the truth.
And I cannot leave out the relationship between Mulder and Scully -- it has taught me that true love is not sex, but purity, friendship, affection and constancy. In a world full of cheap exhibitionism and confusion of all kinds with respect to romantic relationships, "The X-Files" shows that love and happiness are to be found in a healthier, simple life of routine. If you only knew how many nights I lay awake thinking and sighing about the platonic love among our agents at the FBI!! This e-mail could continue much longer if I tried to say everything that the series means to me. Really I just want to thank you for creating this show and having created it so perfectly. Although I do not know you or the rest of the team personally, I like you all a lot!

Ana

ENJOY

I thought you might enjoy this. While we over in the xfilesnews.com chat room have real lives, we still find time to sit until 2 a.m. and laugh over the most random things, given that there is not a lot of news about this movie out to pick apart. So we made this little video, a tribute not only to our Xtreme randomness, but also to "The X-Files" as we see it at 2 in the morning.

DEVOTION

I just want to thank you for your retraction to saying the "Per Manum" flashbacks happened between "all things" and "Requiem" (and also thank you for taking so much time for your fans on your blog). I think it is amazing to think that six years after the show ended, tons of fans of the show still have great debates over details of the show, the Mulder-Scully relationship and William being two of the biggest debated topics on The Haven boards (http://community.idealistshaven.com/forums).
The movie itself has even sparked debates among fans regarding details such as whether or not Mulder and Scully are together at the beginning and how William will be dealt with in the film. It is amazing to see such fan devotion (I mean we haven't even seen the movie yet but our discussions are numerous and passionate). I thank you, and the others, for giving us the gift of "The X-Files" and now giving us the gift of another movie, for which we will be discussing for many years, I'm sure.
I can't wait for July 25th!
Thanks,
Lindsey
P.S. I'm so excited it was filmed in Vancouver!

COMMUNITY

Thank you so much for keeping us updated about the premiere, I know you must get hounded with so many questions, but we really appreciate you being upfront with us, it's something we rarely get when it comes to answers surrounding "The X-Files" ;). Thanks to the new info, I now believe I will make it back L.A. for the premiere and will be able to do both my summer camp and be on the side of the red carpet to see you all, which I am so grateful for. I also wanted to say that it's been so crazy to see how many people have come out of the woodwork since promotion for the movie has begun. I was always known as "the X-Files girl" in middle school, high school, and college. I have babysitters from over 10 years ago contacting me to tell me that they think of me when they see something about the movie, because they remember me begging them to let me stay up to watch the show. And when I attended the Paley Festival, I was sitting in line by myself for a while, waiting for my friend, and I struck up a conversation with a group of women. As it turned out, I was somehow connected to almost all of them from years before and some of us knew each other by name. It's been so great reconnecting with people and feeling like a part of that community again! Thank you for bringing that back to us, especially with all the promo work you and Chris are doing personally. We are all so grateful! And I'm very much looking forward to seeing you all again at the L.A. Film Festival (and hopefully at the premiere as well)!
