DVD EXTRAS

I know this is premature, but I wanted to ask you, Chris, and Fox to put as many cut scenes, moments, etc. into the DVD "extras" section as you can!  I wish XF2 could be three hours!  I've waited so long to see these characters again, and I want as much of them as I can get.  Saying that, I realize you have strong time constraints -- so, anything you have to take out of the movie, just put in on the DVD!  I'd hate to think of anything ending up on the cutting room floor!  It's sacrilege!

We can't promise three hours, but I don't think you'll be disappointed.

NS FAN

I am a big fan of "Night Stalker." It was a really good series. I hope there is a possibility of a TV movie. I have the DVD, but I would like to see Stuart and Gabrielle playing those characters again.

QUESTIONS

There is so much I want to say to you, Frank, but I will try to keep it short.
I don’t know if you will ever be able to grasp the impact your work on "The X-Files" has had on my -- and many others' -- life. And to now see your dedication and love for the film and the characters only increases our excitement and devotion.
Chris Carter’s and your comments in interviews are always so reassuring, and your words are used as comfort all the time to set worried minds at rest in the fan forums online. I am not sure whether you ever browse through the forums, but you should -- you are beyond worshipped!
Here is a tricky question for you that has been discussed endlessly among fans: When do the flashback sequences in "Per Manum" actually take place?
Lots and lots of love,
Emma
Sweden

First, I have to tell you that when "The X-Files" first premiered, I was only 14 years old.  (And because I had drill team practice and football games on Friday nights, I couldn't watch it -- finally, when it moved to Sunday nights, I became a fan.  I remember specifically that the first episode I saw was "Eve" -- I fell in love immediately!)
In any case, my senior year of high school, something quite traumatic happened to me, something I thought I would never recover from.  A concerned friend of mine at that time had told me to try and focus on one thing -- just one thing at a time, she said -- just one reason to get through the day, and then the rest would eventually become easier.   Well, needless to say, I didn't believe her.  But I decided to try out her idea anyway.  So as a sort-of "inside" joke, I decided that my one thing that got me through the week would be, "What will happen next week on 'The X-Files?'  Will Mulder and Scully ever get it together?" It was just this really silly thing to look forward to, but I figured... my role model at that point had been Scully.  And I knew if I wanted to be like Scully, it meant I had to be strong and fight through whatever it was.
Today, nearly 15 years after the show premiered, I am approaching 30 years old, and living the life I decided to be strong and fight for.  (And frankly, I still think Scully is awesome -- the 17-year-old me is so excited for this upcoming movie -- although the 28-year-old me might be even more excited!) In any event, thank you for this show, and these wonderful characters - thank you for saving my life!
Having said that, I have a two-part question about Mulder's sister.
In the beginning, the possibility was raised that Mulder's sister was abducted by aliens.  Several theories were bandied about for years, including possibilities (about human abductors and not aliens) such as those brought up in the very excellent "Paper Hearts" (one of my favorite episodes).  A few years after "Paper Hearts," we discovered that Mulder's sister was not taken by aliens, but by men doing tests.  Why and how did you and Chris Carter come to this conclusion about what happened Mulder's sister?  My second question: the Mulder/Scully dynamic seemed to change fairly quickly after Mulder put his sister to rest.  Was this purposeful; a consequence of a shift in Mulder's priorities?  Was the closing of the book on Samantha Mulder what finally allowed Mulder to (enter into some sort of) physical relationship with Scully?
Hopefully, you'll be able to answer this question (I know you can't answer them all). And thank you again, from the bottom of my heart -- thank you to you, Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson, and David Duchovny, for helping  breathe life into something that got me through a very dark time.  Thank you!  I can't wait to see the movie!  If I could buy my ticket right now, I would!
Much health and happiness to you!
Jaime

Thank you for the lovely e-mails and the great questions. Please forgive me for not answering those questions now -- we're still too busy finishing the movie -- but I'll try to answer them when things slow down (if they ever do!).

THE PICTURE

As an X-phile reading your blog, I just wanted to drop a line saying thank you for that picture that was released in People magazine. Everyone is just referring to it as THE picture and I think you surpassed yourself with it. It really defines MSR.

GRACIAS

Yes, a Latin American girl -- as you'd call me -- is writing you an e-mail.
First I wanted to thank you for being such an inspiration for many people all around the world.
As a reader and a writer, "The X-Files" means so much to me beacuse I understand it as a story. For me watching the show was (and still is) like reading the most delicious book.
It's a pleasure.
You wouldn't believe it, but I first watched "The X-Files" at the age of four or five. Actually I don't remember because I was too little.
Once a week, I went to my parents' bedroom because I knew that THAT day, late at night, a really frightening and mysterious show was on.
It caught my attention. Every time.
It's funny how things changed since I started to grow up.
Always with a book in my head, a pen in my hand, and a piece of paper.
But the images, that shocking images of "The X-Files" wandered in my mind for years. Always having something more to say every time I heard Mulder and Scully having an argument or falling in love.
Philosophy and human nature, it was all there.
Now, I'm a more mature little girl.
An 18-year-old girl who thinks that maybe, if she believes in what is my passion, even if I'm not rewarded in life, with my letters people will think of what I have to say.
However, the aim of this e-mail is not to tell you about me.
Me is not the thing.
The real thing is how a written thing, a filmed image could change the way I now see life, as a woman, as an Argentinian, as an artist.
Be proud of what you have done, be proud of not really knowing what you have done (like Don Quixote).
And although my thoughts are in Spanish, and despite the fact my heart is a stubborn Argentinian heart, don't prejudge me.
Just imagine that a person, one person in the other side of the world, pays attention to the signs, the infinite signs that have built this world. The signs that reveal society and take them as tools in order to understand this crazy, surrealist world.
"The X-Files" is one of those "tools" -- a weapon, I would say, to keep  on fighting for a better future
Gracias,
Thank you,
Florencia

NY COMIC CON

I wanted to say thank you, Frank, for coming out to ComicCon! I meant to send this to you a week ago, but I am just getting around to it. This is an article I wrote that was posted on xfilesnews.com. I thought you might want to see it!

A LITTLE HAPPINESS

I'm writing from Portugal.
First of all, let me say how great it is to see this blog up and running again, after many months of silence.
I've been a fan of "The X-Files" since the first episode.
It started over here a year or so, after it premiered in the U.S.
I remember reading in the newspaper about this new show which was sort of "The Twilight Zone meets Twin Peaks," and those being two of my favourite TV shows, ever, I couldn't miss it!
So, there I was watching the pilot, when it first aired, and I was hooked!
In the beginning what attracted me to it was the storytelling, but soon after, the characters were without a doubt the reason to watch. The Mulder and Scully dynamic was amazing and something all together new on TV, at that time.
Anyway, I couldn't be happier that a new movie is being made and actually just can't wait! So, what better way to gear up for it, than to re-watch all the DVDs? That's what I've been doing since the beginning of the year. Last night, I was watching "Emily" and it just hit me what a tragedy of Greek proportions the lives of these characters have been…take Mulder: no family members left, how many times has he "died"/been on the run/got abducted? He has a son, only to go on the run again two days after he's born, gets back, sentenced to death, learns the baby was given up for adoption…take Scully: gets abducted, loses sister, has cancer, learns she can't have children, finds out she had a child only to see her die, gets pregnant, looses Mulder, gives baby for adoption, etc., etc…
I know there are no happy endings in real life, and "The X-Files" was true to that, even though the show ended on a semi-positive note – al least they were together…
With all these tragedies, it would be nice to see just a little bit of happiness/joy for those two in the upcoming movie, for a change ;-)
Let me end by saying it has been great to see you and Chris on these events like the WonderCon, etc. (for us international fans, thank God for the internet!) and again, just can't wait to see it all in the big screen again!
And here's hoping the DVD is full of goodies like bloopers, cut scenes, commentaries, etc…

NEVER GIVE UP HOPE

I just want to say thank you. "The X-Files" pretty much kept me sane in my high school years. I looked forward to it every week. I was very much a loner. My home life was horrible. It really made me happy to watch the show every week. No matter where I was everything stopped for "The X-Files." It made me feel like no matter how hard life was I should never give up hope. It probably sounds weird to say a TV show had such a positive effect on me but it did. It brought across such a good message. It was always there when I needed to escape, even if was only for an hour once a week. I kept my hope alive that my life would get better, it did and I owe a small piece of that to you, because that show gave me something to cling to and look forward to, when I really didn't have anything else. Thank you again for helping create the best show of all time, and bringing back Mulder and Scully!!!! I missed them.  I will be at my local theater on July 25th!!!

THRILLED

I just wanted to e-mail and let you know how much I thoroughly enjoyed attending the "X-Files" panel at NY Comic Con.  It’s thrilling to know that the truth is indeed about to be back out there again for all of us!  It was also a pleasure to meet you and Chris beforehand at the autograph session, and I’m sure that every fan in that line appreciated how friendly and patient you were with everyone.  You guys truly are class acts.
I’ve been a fan of "The X-Files" since it began in 1993.  I was ten years old when “The Pilot” aired.  The first thing I did after the episode concluded was run and get a dictionary to look up the meaning of the word “plausible.”  That was the first of many, many times that "The X-Files" served as an inspiration for me to investigate something, and learn something new in the process--whether it was simply exposure to unfamiliar vocabulary, a desire to seek out a better understanding of scientific ideas the show utilized, or most importantly, being driven to look at issues in life from multiple windows of understanding.  "The X-Files" was a vital part of my own growth and education during the highly impressionable teenage years of my life.  You and everyone else involved with "The X-Files" deserve the highest praise for contributing to the intelligence and quality of the show, because it absolutely defies the notion that exposure to television is universally “bad” for children and teenagers.  Growing up, I spent numerous hours of my time watching your show and discussing it with my family, peers, and teachers.  I feel smarter and more enriched for having had that experience.  I can even count it as an important factor in my getting into college, because I actually wrote my college admissions essay on this exact topic.  I was later told that it factored into my receiving a scholarship that resulted in my graduating four years later completely debt free.
I just want to sincerely thank you for your contribution to "The X-Files."  For whatever fascinating government conspiracy or scary monster took the stage every week on the show, the series had elegant, incredibly positive themes at its core that have fostered its lasting legacy.  I am grateful to have grown up while being exposed to these concepts.  "The X-Files" taught me to think about figuring out ways to ask the right questions to understand the world around me.  It taught me to have hope that the answers are, indeed, out there.  It made me think about the juxtaposition between science and faith, and learning how to navigate the gray areas of life.  And more than anything else, it taught me that the ultimate truth can’t be found in science, or the paranormal, or any of those other things: it’s really all about finding your own perfect counterpoint and companion to take the journey through life along with you.  At an age where I could have been learning far more negative ideas about life and relationships, I was thankfully exposed to a television show centered around two intelligent, inquisitive, and respectful characters who had the kind of dynamic and understanding that the rest of us can only hope to attain at some point in our lives.
I’m not a teenager anymore, of course, but I’m still inspired by these same themes, and I’m incredibly excited that a new chapter in this universe will be opened up with the movie in July.  It’s been a pleasure to be on the receiving end of your creative efforts over the last fifteen years.

PERFECT OPPOSITES

First and foremost, thank you for this blog 'cause the idea of being able to communicate in any way with you is just incredible.
Second of all, a big "thank you" is not enough to describe how -- and I believe I speak on behalf of all Philes out there -- excited, thrilled and at awe we feel about the second movie.
Ever since 1993, we were taught to believe and hope that there is, somewhere, out there, someone who can stick along the thick and thins and will always support us and be there for us to lean on, asking nothing in return but our trust. We discovered that the scariest monsters are the ones who reside inside the human psyche. We discovered the truth we already knew, that no government or officials are above the law when it's in the hands of two people to expose their secrets and horrifying abuse of power. We learned that the dead are not lost to us and if we hear carefully we will find a way to save ourselves. We tuned in week after week to experience two people's quest against all odds, having as a weapon only their relationship and the respect for each other's belief and truth.
What I want to thank you, and CC and everyone is for being able to open doors, not only artistically, but imaginatively by simple asking "what if?" and being loyal and true to your heart and to the fans. You never let us down, even when time passed and the show had to face hard changes. You were always true to the fans and you always managed to overcome yourself.
If we all want to believe in one thing is that there is someone out there who can be the Mulder to our Scully or the Scully to out Mulder.
We were hoping for a second movie not only because of "The X-Files" and the cases, or the big explosions and special effects, but because of two people who have been with us since 1993 (1992 for them), and the moment we will be reunited with them. I believe and I want to thank you in advance, that the trust we've shown you and the incredible art you've shown us over the years will be very much alive in "I Want to Believe". I keep my mind open and I am ready to experience the unexpected.
All I truly want now is to see Mulder and Scully as I always thought of them, as we all learned to think of them and to see them. A union of perfect opposites.
Please, the truest truths keep us together and not apart...
I can't wait for July (or whenever the movie comes out in Greece)
Thank you again,
a hopeless shipper and believer,
Dimitris

CANNOT WAIT

There are so many reality shows and well, garbage, on TV these days, I ache for the days of "The X-Files," "Lone Gunmen" and "Millennium" to return!!
Fox could raise their ratings and finally stop ruining Sunday night if they would just start "The X-Files" again from the beginning and then you and Mr. Carter get our beloved Fox & Dana to do a couple more seasons.
OK, I know I am asking for too much!!
I heard the second movie is coming out July 25th and I CANNOT wait!  I will be first in line Day 1 and probably Day 2 also!
I just wanted to write and say THANK YOU again!!
Thank you for all you have given us and all you have yet to present to us!!

PRICELESS

First of all I'd like to thank and congratulate you on running this amazing blog. It's such a comfort to know that even when the sky is falling, you are always out there for us.
It's been 10 years now since I found "The X-Files" and, accidentally, it turned out to be the most powerful, widely understood inspiration that I've ever experienced getting from anybody or anything. A process of growing up together with the show strongly influenced my world consciousness, which is basically a reason of my present outlook on life. I've always treated both you and Chris Carter like initiators of not only my scientific interests, but also very personal awareness of faith as well. Actually you saved me, in every way a person can be saved. That's why I love you and admire so much.
The time of waiting for "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" is just a priceless and exciting moment, full of extreme agitation and intense fans' response. I just wish it could be a spoiler-free time, that we would all get to unwrap our entire X-mas present on 25 July..
Lots of love,
Evelyne

GRATITUDE

In addition to thanking you (and Chris) for all your hard work on the XF sequel, I'd like to express my gratitude for your kindness towards the fans. Personally, I haven't had the chance to attend any of the recent festivals that you've been at (note my location) but I've read just about everything that's been reported on-line. Your warm considerateness has not gone unnoticed, and I know it has a huge meaning for the fans. Again, thanks!

FROM GREECE WITH LOVE

I live in Greece and I want to apologize for my English in advance.
I'm a huge fan of "The X-Files" for almost half of my life. I want to say a big THANKS to you and Chris Carter for challenging my mind on a daily basis. The mantra "I Want to Believe" has undoubtedly helped me through the years by making me go out there and fight my own fights, confront my personal demons, just because I wanted to believe. So, I'm extremely happy that this mantra is the actual title of the upcoming movie, where your involvement guarantees nothing but SUCCESS.
Thank you and your brilliant minds for making this movie and thank you for giving me the chance to believe again. I know that the fans of the show are out there, love you and remain faithful to it, no matter how many years have gone by.
I wish I could be there as well to personally congratulate you, but unfortunately, I have commitments here. However, I want you to know that this year my heart was beating in Vancouver and follows you every step of the way. Please, accept my best wishes for the new movie or... movies? Well, a girl can always hope!
With love and appreciation,
your biggest Greek-geek fan,
Olga

CAN'T WAIT

Now that we know the title of the longed-for "X-Files" movie, all the fans have intense feelings. For me it's like the best present, since I heard the second "X-Files" movie is coming! My first thought was, "Oh my God, it's so great!" This title -- these words -- mean so much for the show. Since the pilot episode, "I Want to Believe" became the key words for understanding "The X-Files." Now we get more meaning and interest, all because of the new movie's title.
I now think I understand the new movie better than I could from any spoiler. Thank you for this amazing present and for your work, which makes us so happy. I can't wait for summer to come. ))

IT'S NOT JUST MULDER

Sorry, English is not my first language and to write in English is even more difficult. So sorry for all the mistakes.
I have been following the tour you and Chris Carter are making to promote "The X-Files" and I could not help but notice that very little is said about Scully's quest in the second "X-Files" movie. Every time she is talked about, it's in relation to Fox Mulder. When Mr. Carter came out with the explanation for the movie's title as being linked to Fox Mulder's quest, I had to write to you and ask about this...
Nothing is said (or very little is said) about Scully. Even in the leaked call sheets, which you mentioned were maybe fake leads, nothing was related to Scully's actions in the movie. All the scenes were from the point of view of Mulder.
While I understand there there would be a need to reinforce Mulder's quest due to the events of the last two seasons, I think it's wrong to diminish Scully's importance in "The X-Files." The fact is a lot of people see "The X-Files" also through her eyes and some especially learned to see it this way in the last two season.
From my point of view, the marketing for this movie should be focused on both characters... not on Mulder's quest, with Scully as his sidekick. That's very disappointing, not only as a Gillian Anderson fan, but also as a fan of Scully's.
Ly

I don't think you'll be disappointed, Ly. The movie (and the title) is very much about both Mulder and Scully.

"I WANT TO BELIEVE" IN RUSSIA

I am from Russia and my English is not as good as I would like it to be, so please excuse any mistakes.
All that I want to say to you and Mr. Carter and to all the 1013 team is THANKS! That's what I've wanted to say my whole life as a fan! Unfortunately, I can't do it in person, but "I want to believe" that one day my dream will come true. My friends and I love your work so much! And I'm so proud that I can call myself an "X-Files" fan. Some people think I'm crazy but for me it's honor to be another Mrs. Spooky.
Also I want to thank you for the title to the second "X-Files" movie, "I Want to Believe." I think it's the greatest title I've ever heard -- that I could even imagine! Thank you so mush for giving me this feeling of happiness. I love Chris and you so much! You are such brilliant people: talented, honest, sensual, intellectual, touching and a little paranoid, but I like it! You are not just a big part of my life, you have become like my second family. And, finally, thank you for having given a little of your precious time to read my crazy e-mail!
I wish you lots of luck!
Your mad fan from St. Petersburg, Russia,

BENCH MYSTERY

Upon visiting Vancouver in January 2008 with two fellow "X-Files" fans, I noticed that the infamous "The Truth is Out There" bench that "The X-Files" had donated to Cates Park in North Vancouver back in 1997 seems to have vanished. Do you have any idea what happened to it? I had first seen it in the summer of 2006 along the south shore of the park and come January of this year, it was no longer in that spot. We even ventured through the park in the rain and the mud (and the rain) searching for it. Was it moved or, heaven forbid, stolen? I've tried contacting the park as well. It was such a brilliant idea for a donation to Vancouver and became rather iconic among fans.
Hoping you can help solve the mystery of the vanishing bench,
Alex
Montreal, QC

I'm afraid I don't know, but if anyone out there has any information about the bench's whereabouts, please send it along.

MULDER'S RING

In the Season 5 episode, "Travelers," I noticed that Mulder is wearing a wedding ring, and the camera makes sure you are aware of it, and see it, but (and I have seen all eposides but the last three in the entire series) I don't recall mention of Mulder having a previous marriage, or ever referring to one in any of his conversations... Can you enlighten me on this? Thanks!
Rachel

Good catch. It wasn't Mulder's ring. David Duchovny decided to wear his real-life wedding room in that episode, but there was no story reason for it.

INSPIRATION

Sadly enough, I was too young when "The X-Files" began, but once the first movie came out I could happily call myself an X-phile. The show has really been an inspiration to me, in my studies, in life, and in my relationships. Thanks to your brilliant work on the show I found my passion in science and law. Scully's character has always been an inspiration in all I do and I am thankful to have found the show at an early age.
When "The X-Files" ended in 2002, I had no idea what to do with myself, and I guess I was going to have to find another TV show to fill the void (that sounds desperate!). But then I heard the announcement that Chris Carter wanted to make a second "X-Files" film and ever since then I have worked to build my XF collection, meet as many other philes as possible, and gain the most knowledge of my favorite TV show. When I learned that production was finally going to begin in 2007, there was nothing else I cared about (and my studies did suffer). Then when the release date was set I thought I might "lapse into catatonic schizophrenia " (to quote one of my favorite lines).
Really, what I'm trying to say is, I can't thank you enough for the work you have put into the series, the new movie coming out this summer, and any future project you may have. Your work has played an essential role in the lives of thousands of X-philes and just remember that we are out there and will always remain loyal. I do hope Chris Carter and yourself decide to make a third film, I couldn't stand for this to be the last time we see Mulder and Scully on the big screen.
Well, I've rambled on here for a while now so I'll just sum all this up with a few questions that have been asked thousands of times. One thing that has bothered me to no end would be the question of where did Scully child come from? Was it the product of a union, or a government project? Secondly, if a third film is made, will Doggett and Reyes be in it, and will the plot have anything to do with out good friends the aliens? I hope you are able to find some time to answer these questions, and I once again would like to share my undying gratitude to you and the rest of the cast who have made me who I am today.
Cheers ( an X-phile for life),
Amanda

William was indeed Mulder and Scully's son, but I'm afraid I can't answer your other questions just yet!

NY COMICON

I will be attending the "X-Files" portion of ComiCon this coming Friday and I was just wondering if you and Chris Carter will be taking audience questions like you did at Wondercon?  If so, I want to be prepared with good ones.  I was a little annoyed with the lack of thoughtful ones that I saw on the video of SanFran.  Luckily, your adeptness at answering them saved the panel.  :)
I am so excited to be coming to this!  I have been an "X-Files" fan since Season 2 and have never been to any "X-Files"-related event.  I figure this may be my last chance, and it's such an amazing occurrence that all of this is back.  I don't want to take it for granted.  I honestly had given up hope that a movie would happen.  Silly me for not listening to Mulder.  :)  He's is right like 99% of the time, right?
Well, thank you for your great work on the show, for being such an advocate for it and the characters, and for being so fan friendly.  We "X-files" fans truly are the luckiest.
See you in NY!
Allison

Chris and I will be signing autographs from 5 to 6 p.m. and answering questions from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Look forward to seeing you there, Alison!

PALEYFEST

Here's a picture of the panel on stage at PaleyFest -- it turned out very "X-Files" appropriate, if you will.
