MULDER'S CURRENT OCCUPATION
I've been continuing to discuss "I Want To Believe" with other fans, and one of the little things that's been piquing my interest as of late is exactly what Mulder was up to over the last six years. Yes, we know he's been laying low on account of that whole minor fugitive problem he was dealing with, but... what else was he up to during those six years, other than all that creative wallpaper work on his office walls, that is? Was he in charge of cleaning the house? Cooking Scully gourmet dinners? Planting a garden?
I've been operating under the assumption that he was "working" as a writer, maybe using a pseudonym, based on Scully's remark to him in the locker room scene suggesting that Mulder "put it in a book" instead of continuing to investigate the case. Is this a reasonable assessment, or was Scully just being incredibly patronizing in that scene, and nothing more?

That's another one of those questions we've deliberately left open, but I do think your assessment is reasonable, although it's hard to say whether he's published or anything or just been working on that book Scully mentioned.
