"BOOK OF THE DEAD"

I used to be a voracious reader of Patricia Cornwell, the author of the forensically-focused Kay Scarpetta novels. This was long before my introduction to "The X-Files," but those books probably had a hand in guiding me to it. Her latest novel is called The Book of Dead and is a number one best seller in paperback. I purchased it recently and couldn't wait to see what muder mystery awaited me.
Imagine my surprise when I ran across this passage desribing the actions of a serial killer. (also see the photo). It sounded so familiar....
(Benton)"...and we don't know if he assaults his victims sexually, only that he tortures them."
(Police Captain) "I'm not sure we know that for a fact."
(Benton) "What do you call it when someone forces a woman to sit naked in a tub of cold water? And possibly dunks her?"

um..A director?
(A director at the behest of his writer?)
