QUESTIONS
There is so much I want to say to you, Frank, but I will try to keep it short.
I don’t know if you will ever be able to grasp the impact your work on "The X-Files" has had on my -- and many others' -- life. And to now see your dedication and love for the film and the characters only increases our excitement and devotion.
Chris Carter’s and your comments in interviews are always so reassuring, and your words are used as comfort all the time to set worried minds at rest in the fan forums online. I am not sure whether you ever browse through the forums, but you should -- you are beyond worshipped!
Here is a tricky question for you that has been discussed endlessly among fans: When do the flashback sequences in "Per Manum" actually take place?
Lots and lots of love,
Emma

First, I have to tell you that when "The X-Files" first premiered, I was only 14 years old. (And because I had drill team practice and football games on Friday nights, I couldn't watch it -- finally, when it moved to Sunday nights, I became a fan. I remember specifically that the first episode I saw was "Eve" -- I fell in love immediately!)
In any case, my senior year of high school, something quite traumatic happened to me, something I thought I would never recover from. A concerned friend of mine at that time had told me to try and focus on one thing -- just one thing at a time, she said -- just one reason to get through the day, and then the rest would eventually become easier. Well, needless to say, I didn't believe her. But I decided to try out her idea anyway. So as a sort-of "inside" joke, I decided that my one thing that got me through the week would be, "What will happen next week on 'The X-Files?' Will Mulder and Scully ever get it together?" It was just this really silly thing to look forward to, but I figured... my role model at that point had been Scully. And I knew if I wanted to be like Scully, it meant I had to be strong and fight through whatever it was.
Today, nearly 15 years after the show premiered, I am approaching 30 years old, and living the life I decided to be strong and fight for. (And frankly, I still think Scully is awesome -- the 17-year-old me is so excited for this upcoming movie -- although the 28-year-old me might be even more excited!) In any event, thank you for this show, and these wonderful characters - thank you for saving my life!
Having said that, I have a two-part question about Mulder's sister.
In the beginning, the possibility was raised that Mulder's sister was abducted by aliens. Several theories were bandied about for years, including possibilities (about human abductors and not aliens) such as those brought up in the very excellent "Paper Hearts" (one of my favorite episodes). A few years after "Paper Hearts," we discovered that Mulder's sister was not taken by aliens, but by men doing tests. Why and how did you and Chris Carter come to this conclusion about what happened Mulder's sister? My second question: the Mulder/Scully dynamic seemed to change fairly quickly after Mulder put his sister to rest. Was this purposeful; a consequence of a shift in Mulder's priorities? Was the closing of the book on Samantha Mulder what finally allowed Mulder to (enter into some sort of) physical relationship with Scully?
Hopefully, you'll be able to answer this question (I know you can't answer them all). And thank you again, from the bottom of my heart -- thank you to you, Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson, and David Duchovny, for helping breathe life into something that got me through a very dark time. Thank you! I can't wait to see the movie! If I could buy my ticket right now, I would!
Much health and happiness to you!
Jaime
Thank you for the lovely e-mails and the great questions. Please forgive me for not answering those questions now -- we're still too busy finishing the movie -- but I'll try to answer them when things slow down (if they ever do!).
