MOST TERRIFYING?
I have newly discovered this blog, and it is so great to see everyone's anecdotes and love for "The X-Files." Let me just say that I started watching the show at the ripe old age of 8 years old (I'm 21 now), entirely because I was absolutely FORBIDDEN to watch it. The first episode I ever saw was "Hell Money" (think Dad's fallen asleep on the couch, Mom's not really paying close attention). It goes without saying that I was terrified out of my little mind, but I was also hooked. A couple years later I started watching for real, and have been a faithful fan ever since. I still watch my DVDs, and rewatching the early years of the show as an adult (or at least a bigger kid) in the past few months has given me a new appreciation for the amazing creativity and hard work that went into each episode. And just how novel it was. People who now maybe jab me for watching my "X-Files" DVDs while they're watching "Lost" don't really understand that without "The X-Files," "Lost" probably wouldn't exist!
I know you know there are a lot of us crazy TXF fans, and I promise we're still out there! We all hope to be making a ridiculously long beeline for the theaters sometime in the future. So, thank you SO MUCH for being a part of "The X-Files."
My question: What, to you, was the most terrifying episode of "The X-Files?" I'll contribute that the first time I saw "Home," I had to turn it off and watch it a year or so later.
Thanks again for all the laughs, the tears, the intrigue, and of course the goosebumps!

Tough question. I have so many favorite episodes, for so many different reasons, because -- as you suggest -- "The X-Files" didn't always just aim to scare, but also to be funny, suspenseful, mysterious and even thought-provoking. For pure terror, though, my list (excluding episodes where I was credited as writer or co-writer, which I can't be objective about) would surely include "Ice," "The Host," "Irresistable," "Home," "Roadrunners" and "4-D."
